I, King Barack, Hereby Declare…

Via Glenn Reynolds, who always links to the best stuff, comes news that our brilliant leader, President Obama, has figured out how to make federal agencies more customer-friendly. He issued an executive order commanding that it be so. No, really.

President Obama issued an executive order on Wednesday instructing federal agencies to come up with ways they can use technology to improve customer service within six months.

“Government managers must learn from what is working in the private sector and apply these best practices to deliver services better, faster, and at lower cost,” Obama said in a statement.

The crack White House communications department even captured a shot of the exact moment when Obama made his grand pronouncement:

Fairy godmother

Pardon my cynicism, but it takes a special kind of clueless to think that all an executive must do to make his or her organization run better is, you know, tell it to run better.

In fairness to Mr. Obama, though, he has no real world experience managing anything, so he has no reason to think that the head honcho needs to do anything besides talk and presto! things gets done. After all, he became President by doing nothing but talking.

The comments on the article, by the way, are priceless. My favorite is from commenter GOOD LT, who paraphrases the Underpants Gnome business plan:

1. Issue executive order mandating better service.
2. ?????
3. Better service!
