About My Assassination Post…

I would like to amend this:

The morally bankrupt opportunists who might try to make political hay from this tragedy are an extreme minority.

Once again, my faith in my fellow humans was not entirely warranted. It seems that an effort is indeed underway to take political advantage of the attempt on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ life on Saturday. Shockingly (OK, not), the effort is by Democrats.

One veteran Democratic operative, who blames overheated rhetoric for the shooting, said President Barack Obama should carefully but forcefully do what his predecessor did.

“They need to deftly pin this on the tea partiers,” said the Democrat. “Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on the militia and anti-government people.”

It appears the usual suspects are heeding their marching orders.

Liberal commentators such as MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who on a special Saturday evening show said he was sometimes guilty of over-the-top rhetoric, made an impassioned plea for more restraint and civil debate. But he also guaranteed that the political temperature would rise by devoting most of the show to the still-undocumented assertion that conservative political rhetoric helped send someone with a predisposition to violence over the edge. He called on a long roster of politicians like Palin and defeated Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle (who once spoke of “Second Amendment remedies” for conservatives to rein in Congress) to “repudiate” past rhetoric and demanded that commentators like Beck and Bill O’Reilly offer “solemn apologies” for giving “oxygen to those deep in madness to whom violence is an acceptable solution.”

Translation: Olbermann admits he has engaged in over-the-top rhetoric, so he tells those nasty Republicans that they have to practice “more restraint and civil debate.” God forbid he should similarly call out Democrats, such as our thuggish President who once urged his followers, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”

The irony here is that the alleged gunman, Jared Loughner, besides being possibly schizophrenic, was “quite liberal,” according to one of his high school classmates. But fear not; we can expect that like all disingenuous opportunists, the Democrats now practicing the famous Rahm Emanuel directive to “never let a serious crisis go to waste” won’t let the facts get in their way.

As my wise father often says, the world would be a wonderful place if it weren’t for people.
