Speaking of Republicans Screwing Up…

Dunce capthis item from Glenn Reynolds sums up exactly what I talked about at the end of my last post.

PORKBUSTERS UPDATE: McConnell Fights GOP Earmark Ban.

Could Sen. McConnell possibly be any more dense? He would do well to heed the words of Republican Senator-elect Marco Rubio of Florida, who said in his victory speech on election night last week:

[W]e make a grave mistake if we believe that tonight these results are somehow an embrace of the Republican Party. What they are is a second chance. A second chance for Republicans to be what they said they were going to be not so long ago.

Damn right. The voters voted not for Republicans but against Democrats (and, in the primaries, against free-spending Republicans). Voters don’t like earmarks, which are simply ways for Senators and Representatives to reward special interests that have supported them and “bring home the bacon.” They don’t like the earmark process whereby expenditures are added not to the budget bill where they can be properly debated, but to other legislation that has nothing to do with what the earmark is intended to fund. They don’t like the Capitol Hill gang throwing around our money as if it’s their own. And my guess is that they sure as hell don’t like politicians who still don’t get the very basic premise that they work for us, not the other way around.

Maybe McConnell is afraid to be Senate Majority Leader and prefers to be in the minority party instead. If he doesn’t get with the program, that will happen so fast, it’ll make his pointy little head spin.
