Things That Make You Go, "Eeeewwwwwwww!"

From the Health Department in my town, via text alert:

The City of Worcester Department of Inspectional Services, Housing and Health Inspections Division and Division of Public Health in conjunction with the Town of Shrewsbury’s Board of Health issue this PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY relating to recreational activities on Lake Quinsigamond.

The recent record rainfall caused flooding and contamination of the lake by harmful bacteria. Increased concentrations of bacteria are a health risk to anyone conducting recreation in stormwater impacted areas. Please be advised to avoid contact with all surface waters including Lake Quinsigamond, particularly south of Route 9. The water quality will be monitored and tested until there no longer is a threat to public’s health.

The “harmful bacteria” that typically cause problems in cases like this are from animal feces that get washed into the lake during heavy rains. If that isn’t enough to keep you out of the water, I don’t know what is.
