Marvels of Modern Engineering and Societal Insanity

More than four years ago, I blogged about a proposed Grand Canyon Skywalk, a cantilevered tourist attraction that would jut 70 feet out the side of the canyon wall 4,000 feet above the Colorado river. I’m not sure what would move any sane individual to visit such an attraction, but apparently many people have done so. That’s right, the Skywalk is now open for business.

First, a panorama, just in case you have forgotten how tiny and insignificant we humans are compared to the infinite wonder of nature.

Here’s the skywalk and attached visitor center.

Need more of the height effect? Try this view.

And for those who thought these images were artist’s renderings, I took the liberty of extracting a wee detail from a high-resolution version of the panorama. Those are indeed real people.

I am speechless. Just speechless.

Thank you for these images. We went to the Skywalk on the year it opened and there was no visitor center. I searched all of the official websites and yours was the only to show anything other than artist drawings of the visitor center.
